Hello ACM UMN members,

Here are some of the events we have coming up in the next few weeks:

• Epic Think Talk:

  • This Thursday at 6:00 PM, ACM UMN will be hosting a Think Talk sponsored by Epic in Tate Hall 101. Epic is a company that makes healthcare software for mid-size and large medical groups, hospitals and integrated healthcare organizations. Representatives from Epic will be talking about building security into enterprise applications. Among the topics discussed will be the technical challenges of implementing something as simple as secure passwords, emerging models for mobile device security, and the implications of security breaches. There will also be free pizza and a chance for attendees to to ask any questions they might have. If you're interested in computer security or would like to learn about it, make sure to stop by.

• Fall LAN Party:

  • On November 16th from 6:00 PM to 2:00 AM, ACM, IEEE, and UMN Esports will be hosting a LAN party in the Keller atrium. There will be tournaments set up for popular video games such as Overwatch, Hearthstone, Rocket League, and more. Free pizza and soda will also be provided. You can also feel free to just bring your computer and hang out. Join the LAN party Discord server if you're looking for a team or are interested in participating in one of the tournaments. Come by and unwind before midterms.

• Interest Group Survey:

  • If you have the time, please take this special interest group survey to help ACM UMN plan events for next semester. Thanks!

• Sam's Club:

  • If you or a family member has a Sam's Club membership that we can borrow to buy snacks for MinneHack, please let us know. Email us if you're willing to help out.

Non ACM UMN Events:

• November Minneapolis Rust Meetup:
  • Tuesday, November 13th, 6:30 PM. Learn about the Rust language and meet other Minneapolis Rustaceans. Free pizza and snacks will be provided. Get more information at z.umn.edu/rust-meetup.
